Indiana State Appellate Pro Bono Program
Baker & Daniels lawyers have been instrumental in developing a pro bono program in Indiana appellate courts. The program has provided pro bono counsel to approximately two dozen litigants in state appellate courts over the past 30 months.

U.S. Court of Appeals Seventh Circuit Program
Baker & Daniels participates in federal appeals through the pro bono program of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit in Chicago. Pro bono lawyers draft briefs and have an opportunity to present oral arguments. Most appeals involve individuals who have been convicted of criminal charges or claims of civil rights violations, including prisoners.

Center for Capital Litigation
Baker & Daniels lawyers and summer associates have opportunities to provide pro bono representation for death-sentenced inmates in state post-conviction proceedings, including factual investigations, research, briefing and witness preparation. The firm also has filed amicus briefs on matters related to death penalty appeals. Pro bono legal research also is provided to the Center for Capital Litigation, which is dedicated to improving legal representation in capital cases.

Summer Associate Fellowships with the Center for Capital Litigation
In 2009, Baker & Daniels is offering two fellowships for summer associates to work on death penalty cases at the Center for Capital Litigation in Columbia, South Carolina. The fellows will participate in a number of out-of-office activities, including conducting witness and/or juror interviews; at least one visit to death row to meet with their client(s); record searches and collection; and observation of oral arguments, hearings and/or trials, when available. Each Fellow will also complete one research and writing project over the course of the summer that may be completed during or after the two-week placement at CCL.
Veterans Consortium Program
The Veterans Consortium Pro Bono Program provides free attorneys to veterans and their qualifying family members who have an appeal pending at the U.S. Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims in Washington, D.C.
