Baker & Daniels' Diversity & Inclusion Strategy in Novations Spotlight
12/11/2009
Baker & Daniels received an impressive 95% ranking on the Human Rights Campaign’s 2007 Equality Index. For most organizations, not to mention most law firms, this would have been a crowning achievement in their diversity and inclusion efforts, the Novations E-Newsletter reported in its December client spotlight. Baker & Daniels asked, "How can we get that missing 5%?"
This anecdote perfectly describes the firm, which moved from having a "diversity dialogue" to positive, but disconnected, diversity and inclusion practices, to integrated diversity and inclusion work that stresses employee engagement and client satisfaction, the Novations E-Newsletter reported in its story, "Leading Law Firm Takes Its Diversity and Inclusion Commitment to the Next Level."
The case study highlights Baker & Daniels’ partnership with Novations Group, Inc., a Boston, Mass.-based global talent development firm with more than 30 years of research and development experience. It tracks the progress in their three-year journey to developing and implementing their industry-leading policies and practices, designed to support client satisfaction, work-life balance, and diverse talent recruitment, retention, and development.
Today, Baker & Daniels' diversity and inclusion journey is fully underway, the Novations E-Newsletter reported. Guided by its Diversity & Inclusion Strategic Plan, the firm has seen both qualitative and quantitative results around inclusion and engagement. Since 2006, Baker & Daniels has seen an annual increase in the percentage of minority summer associates, mentoring programs have impacted young attorneys and partners alike, staff members have gained wider opportunities for development, and the firm is recognized as a diversity and inclusion leader throughout the legal community.
